Perseverance Is The Food Of Dreams

Perseverance is the food of dreams

Nothing in the world can replace perseverance, not even talent. It is the quality that gives consistency to one’s personality. The value that goes hand in hand with making dreams come true. Perseverance is a bridge between our conscious mind and the subconscious. It is a direct bridge to success, depending of course on other variables such as intelligence and willpower.

It is normal that it takes time to achieve your goals. There are always obstacles in the way. But as we develop our perseverance, we find alternatives and begin to see every obstacle as an opportunity. We will change perspective and develop the ability to learn from it.

Often we have the means to achieve our goals, but we fail to do so because we lack willpower or perseverance. According to science, training your willpower reduces the execution rate of negative impulses from 70% to 17%.

A study by psychologist Wilhelm Hofmann shows that when people immediately give in to a desire or impulse, they do so about 70% of the time. If they resist, they give in to the impulse only 17% of the time. That is, willpower curbs more than 80% of unwanted impulses, Hofmann explains.

A lack of willpower means that when we have to make a decision, we only think of the immediate benefits. We don’t consider the consequences and we don’t look beyond our instincts.

Difficulties make us stronger, better people

Falls and crises are inevitable. Our problems, no matter how many we have, are opportunities for personal growth. They motivate us to use resources and skills to find solutions. Often they are also what takes us out of our comfort zone and presents us with unavoidable challenges that we would never have given ourselves voluntarily.

So, in order to cope with these situations, we must learn how to interpret the problems as an opportunity rather than a problem. The best coping strategies are the ones that put us in the driver’s seat, determine the causes of the problem, and determine which ones we can do something about.

The only thing we can really control is how we respond to problems. Whenever we respond positively and constructively, we become stronger. We can better cope with our next problem or crisis. Epictetus, philosopher of the Stoic school, wrote: “Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him only to themselves”.

Dreams come true through perseverance

One of the great secrets of success is teaching our minds to resist. As we walk toward our goals, things will get in our way. They can make us decide to withdraw. But don’t give up! Consciously choosing not to give up… that’s the secret to making our dreams come true.

What often leads to victory is having the courage to face adversity and disappointment. Willpower, well channeled, can be very rewarding. But the ‘well channeled’ part is very important. After all, there will be certain battles that are better left unattended because our energy can be better spent elsewhere.

If we want to make our dreams come true, we have to become the kind of person who learns our will to obey our conscious decision to continue. To keep going, no matter how many, what, or how big the obstacles in our way. We will always find a way to continue and achieve our goal.
