Emotionary: A Beautiful Book About Emotional Education

Emotionary: a beautiful book about emotional education

Your emotional upbringing largely determines who you become in life. Managing your emotions well makes you more intelligent. But first someone has to teach you how. One of the best new tools for that is the children’s book Emotionary: Say What You Feel .

The book is intended for children (and their parents) as a way to help them define their feelings and their reasons and influences. In addition, they will get to know themselves better and they will be able to empathize more quickly with others. The idea is that if you know how other people are feeling, you become not only compassionate, but also intelligent.

What is Emotional Intelligence?

Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to identify and manage your emotions. It also means using that ability to channel your energy in positive ways. It is a skill that plays a role in every part of your social life.

However, this is not the only area where emotional intelligence is important. It also relates to things like your internal monologue and the thoughts you make room for.

However, emotional intelligence is not part of traditional psychology, in fact it is a very new concept. Nor is it part of conventional intelligence tests. Many people see this as the reason that the IQ test is outdated.

IQ tests involve a different kind of intelligence, one that is more analytical and logical. But developing this kind of intelligence doesn’t make you any better at managing your emotions.

That’s why the tools meant to get people interested in emotional intelligence are so great. One of the best of these tools is Emotionary .

What is Emotional ?

It is a book in the form of a dictionary with 42 keywords, one for each emotion:

In the dictionary, each keyword comes with a visual representation of the emotion and a brief description of what that emotion is. Also added to each keyword we find: the causes, consequences or other aspects of that emotion, in terms of the emotion that comes after it.

The book is part of the Say What You Feel project . It’s about exploring the emotional world of children or even adults. Emotionary is only part of this project.

They also have a gratitude journal, activities, a reader’s guide, emotion workshops, and ideas for using the images in Emotionary.

Most sources of the project are available in Spanish on the web Palabras Aladas.

How do you use Emotionary ?

The book is perfect for ages six and up. This is when they begin to feel complex emotions. For younger children, the book is less helpful because the content is too complex for them. But if you have the time and resources, the content of the book is certainly adaptable if you want to use it sooner.

Emotionary  is intended as a learning tool  for parents and educators. It is great to use at home because it strengthens the bond between parents and their children through emotional understanding and communication.

Teachers can also use it in schools as it can generate additional material questions, discussions and exchange of ideas in the classroom.

Why is it such an important tool?

Whether you’re a parent, educator, or just an adult who spends a lot of time with kids, Emotionary is a great tool. At home, it could be their bedtime story. You can do it with them (which is good for your band). Or you can let them do it alone (which will boost their interpersonal intelligence).

Two children learn about emotions

The book comes with an endless list of added materials that you can use in school as well. Their website has free resources organized by education level (kindergarten, elementary, and high school). There are worksheets with coloring pages about all the different emotions.

There are also simple questions and all kinds of exercises in which human emotions are portrayed and identified in a fun way through drawings and scenes.

Although it is now only available in Spanish, the publisher has even set up a workshop to help small children identify their emotions and express them with the right words.

Finally, we want to emphasize that emotional intelligence is an ability that we use to develop ourselves and our relationships. That’s why Emotionary can be such a big help. It shows how valuable emotions are and conveys that information to small children.
