‘Mother’, A Beautiful Short Film That Promotes Cooperation Within The Family

'Mother', a beautiful short film that promotes cooperation within the family
Mothers play an incredibly important role in our society, we see them as a kind of superheroines who can do everything. We admire our mother for her ability to take action, her will to be strong, and her gift for meeting the needs of the entire family.

But while we fight for gender equality, we still assume that women will take on the role of mothers and family carers. It is time we question this assumption.

The short film we will discuss about this illustrates this perfectly.

‘Mother’, a beautiful tribute

‘Mother’ is the title of this beautiful short animation film made in 2015 by a group of students from Canada. The group, which calls itself ‘Studio Kokorosh’, managed to beautifully show within five minutes the challenge mothers face every day: being able to do anything.

Being able to do everything and being the emotional center of the family is a responsibility that rests mainly on mothers. It’s time we realized how unfair it is to expect our mothers to “do everything” and how tiring this must be for them.

The short film was very well received and appealed to people from all over the world. In 2016, the film was nominated for an Annie Award in the Best Student Film category. Let’s watch the movie…

We should appreciate mothers because they care for and love us. We should not base their value on their ability to do everything perfectly.

This touching short film promotes family collaboration and the idea that we can all shoulder some of the responsibility traditionally rests on mothers. This offers benefits at all levels and is of course the best way to achieve equality.

Working together is important for the development of children

It is important that children help with household chores. Each member of the family should have responsibilities appropriate to his or her age and ability.  Our children can start this at an early age by putting away their toys themselves, by helping to set and clear the table, by folding their clothes neatly, making their bed, etc.

Mother Mother

In general, we have the implicit and erroneous belief that certain responsibilities are not appropriate for childhood. However, the habits we develop as children will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Duties and responsibilities will also boost a child’s self-image and self-esteem and help the child develop emotional skills that will serve him well in the future.

It is important that their responsibility does not rest on the idea that they ‘help mommy’, no, children need to learn that they have to do certain things themselves precisely because we want to get rid of the prejudice that mommy ‘should’ do everything.

Collaboration within the family is the only way to promote the emotional well-being of every member, starting with the mother and father and ending with the children.
